Vegetable Pakora

Vegetable pakoras are a popular Indian snack made with a mix of vegetables like potatoes, onions, and spinach, coated in a seasoned gram flour batter, and deep-fried until crispy. They’re perfect as a snack or appetizer, enjoyed by many for their crunchy texture and flavorful taste. Serve your pakoras with tangy mint chutney or tamarind chutney for a burst of extra flavor!

Vegetable Pakora

Prep Time: 15-20 minutes

Cook Time: 15-20 minutes

Servings: 15-20 pakoras

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups gram flour (besan)
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (potato, spinach, onion)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for batter
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Batter Consistency:
    • You can add a pinch of baking soda to make them extra crispy.(optional)
    • If the batter seems too dry after mixing, you can gradually add a little water. The batter should be thick and not dripping off the spoon easily.
  2. Frying:
    • Heat the oil on medium-high, and make sure it’s hot enough to fry (you can test by dropping a small amount of batter; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is ready).
    • Fry the pakoras in batches to avoid overcrowding, which can cause them to become soggy. Cook until golden and crispy.

Notes/Tips:

  • Vegetable Prep: Chop or grate vegetables finely, and squeeze excess water from spinach to avoid a soggy batter.
  • Batter Consistency: The batter should be thick enough to hold together but not too dry. Add water gradually.
  • Spices: Adjust spices to taste; you can also add cumin powder or garam masala for extra flavor.
  • Oil Temperature: Ensure oil is hot enough before frying; if the batter sizzles immediately, it’s ready.
  • Frying: Fry in small batches for even cooking and crispy pakoras. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  • Serving: Serve immediately with chutney or yogurt for the best taste.
